I’m a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and I’m passionate about health and wellness, but for the past 40 years, I’ve struggled with my weight. Traditional medical training touches very little upon metabolism and nutrition. I was armed only with the same understanding of how to manage weight that everyone else starts out with — Eat Less and Exercise More. Well, that didn’t really work for me. Neither did the other numerous approaches I tried (i.e. LCHF (low carb, high fat. I spent money on various books, programs and memberships, lots of time and significant effort – all to no avail.
I became aware of Ideal Protein through my sister, Peggy. Pictures of her revealed a weight loss, and when I asked her about it she said she’d been on the program for only 2 months and lost over 20 lbs! I was so excited because she and I have a lot in common with our body types, so I was pretty sure it would work for me as well. I called her to get the scoop, and next thing I knew I was signed up at Ideal Northwest!
I’m a rule-follower, so when they gave me the instructions, I went right home and followed them. Once I have a plan, I do it 100%! I experimented a lot with recipes from Janeva’s Cookbook, spent time sharing ideas on the Ideal Northwest private Facebook group, and joined forces with my sister to share tips on efficiency and preparation. My goal was to make the diet as easy yet enjoyable as possible. Oh, and I also food-journaled every day! My coach said I was a “rock star,” but really I was just following instructions.
Before Ideal Protein:

At one point, I faced the difficult challenge of staying on Phase 1 while traveling 1.5 hours each way to a 3-day shift as an in-home nurse. I didn’t have the ability to do my usual baking or cooking at my patient’s home, so I had to get creative about what foods I used and how to prepare in advance. My coach helped me with ideas and everything went well! I lost consistently even while being away from home 3-5 nights a week!
So far, I have lost 32 lbs and dropped from a size 18-20 to size 12-14! I am about half-way to my goal weight. Actually my goal is really a body fat percentage, but Ideal Northwest was able to give me a weight which correlates with it. Even though I’m only half way, I feel I look good in clothes again after 40 years of nothing but adding pounds.
